Cubs win dramatic pennant clash at Polo Grounds

Chicago defeats New York 4 to 2 in a late season showdown before a crowd estimated up to 100000 at the Polo Grounds. Mordecai Brown worked a masterful outing, fending off Mathewson after a third inning rally, while Chicago’s bats, led by Tinker and Schulte, credibly silenced the Giants. The victory clinches the National League title and sets up a world championship series against Detroit.
