J Borden Harriman former banker is reported dying at his Mount Kisco New York estate after a long digestive illness. Relatives and doctors rushed to his bedside as his condition worsened with family members en route from New York and Paris.

Five Shot in Pistol Duel at Clark and Randolph

In Chicago on October 7 five men were wounded in a street duel after detectives seized Barney Bertache a recently convicted confidence man. Bertache broke free and fired on officers. bullets struck Monaghan Egan Spira and Owens among others. Det. Capt Halpin said Bertache warned the detectives before firing.

Fire Run Kills Medal Man Sergeant Hodgins Dies After Auto Crash

Police Sergeant John E. Hodgins, hero of the Park Avenue Hotel fire on Feb 22 1902, died after a automobile he pressed for a rescue collided with a trolley car. Patrolman Joseph H. King injured but to recover. both were honored for prior heroism. Hodgins, 38, lived at 108 West 96th Street and joined the force in 1901.

Auto Upset Kills Driver in Patchogue Crash

A high speed turn near Suydam’s Corner on the South Road end of Blue Point killed 24 year old Daniel Bellman, a Blue Point garage owner and racer. Five others, Irene and Evelyn Burkhardt, Frank Dreher, Lulu Gull, and Daniel Murdock, were injured. Bellman died instantly. two or three others may die. The car overturned after skidding on a sandy stretch, with doctors treating the injured at Patchogue Clinic Hospital and at Sayville. The three women were moved to a nearby home for safety.

Suffrage Delegates Leave New York for Rochester Pilgrimage

A convoy of New York women suffragists departed Washington Square by car yesterday at 10:00 AM bound for Rochester to attend the State suffrage convention. The procession featured banners and notable figures such as Gen. Rosalie Jones, Corporal Martha Klatuchken, Mrs. Raymond Brown, and Mrs. Frederick Nathan, among others, spreading the call for Votes for Women and victory in 1915.

Hill Quits The Claridge Hotel After Sale Of Interest

John Hill, longtime manager of the Hotel Claridge since its opening, has sold his stake and plans retirement to pursue other hotel ventures including the Clarendon in Brooklyn. The Thompson Starrett Co. has placed the Claridge under Merry & Bremer, who run the McAlpin and Hotel Taft in New Haven. Hill faced a race discrimination accusation in West Side Court last month from Erwin W. Cohn, but the case was dropped after Hill offered an apology. The Claridge was built by Charles Rector In Lott.

Duchess Durazzo seeks annulment from Duke after past larceny case
