Five Die In East New York Tenement Fire
A four story frame tenement at 1490 Herkimer Street East New York burned at 11 last night killing five people including Mrs Rose Caccarallo and her two children aged 3 and 29 months. Several others were seriously burned as rescuers carried victims from the flames. The victims were all Italians and about fifty to seventy five residents were in the building. Police and fire crews from Brownsville Bushwick St Marys and Bradford Street Hospitals aided in the rescue and cleanup. The building owned by the Long Island Railroad Company was considered a fire trap and was totally destroyed with search for more victims continuing.
