H N Bradley of New York hired a New Haven Railroad special when his car broke down in New Rochelle. The 60 horsepower sedan left New York for Fordham, axle snapped on trolley tracks, yet a rapid rescue by rail reached New Haven at 1 04 after a one hour and twenty four minute run. Four people accompanied the party.

Commander Peary the arctic explorer will be promoted to the rank of Captain on October 20, 1910 as Capt. U. S. G. White retires due to age. Peary is the sole civil engineer in the navy holding the rank of Commander and his move to Captain is viewed as a natural advancement.
Dr. Torp of the University of Copenhagen names Prof. Elis Stromgren head of the inquiry committee. They will review Frederick A. Cook's records when they arrive aboard the Scandinavian-American steamer United States around December 7.

Daniel De Grasse of Mariners Harbor was fatally struck by an automobile near his home in Richmond Borough. Bert Tarlan of Matawan N J drove the car that passed over the boy as he crossed the street. He was arrested, car owned by Peter Devlin of Matawan, boy died at St. Vincent's Hospital.
Mary Merrill matron of East Thirty-fifth Street Police Station was arrested in a Broadway store and jailed at Tenderloin Station. A $1,000 bond funded her release with unknown signer. Store detective Tillie Drew says Merrill hid six women's collars in a hand bag valued at $2.72. The badge was confiscated. she is widow living at 213 East Twenty-first Street and appointed matron February 18, 1892.
