A sweeping Republican victory follows elections in 41 states and three territories with an expected 84 seat majority in the House. Governors and legislatures also shifted, notably in Rhode Island where Democrats prevailed and in Pennsylvania where Fusionists were routed.
Early returns from 245 of 2,200 Iowa precincts at 1 AM show Porter leading by about 4,262 votes and an estimated 10,000 margin if the trend holds. Cummins has 30,123 to Porters 25,858 in these precincts, compared with Cummins 33,581 Sullivan 19,138 in the same set in 1908.
Special dispatch from Topeka Kansas reports Hoch likely defeated for governor and Republicans losing the Second Third and Fifth Congressional Districts in the election night tally.

In Niagara Falls on November 6 Peter A. Porter of this city won the Thirty fourth Congressional District race to succeed James A. Wadsworth. Porter chose the cow as his emblem while Wadsworth’s Beef Trust stance and letters with President Roosevelt were prominent in the campaign.
