Columbia Out of Harlem Regatta Day Races

Harlem Regatta Association announced entries for Decoration Day races at West End Casino. Columbia University did not send entries. only Harlem Rowing Club members Shepherd and Fuessel appear in senior events. Morning races upstream from Fordham Heights to High Bridge with a luncheon break and afternoon events including a 3:20 handicap singles.

Loftin of Tennessee Named Annapolis Crew Captain

Midshipman Frank Loftin, who stroked the Academy eight to win all three races this season, is elected Captain of the crew for next season. Loftin, 178 pounds, is a standout rower and holds two captaincies of the crew. He is the champion heavyweight wrestler and plays tackle on the football team at Annapolis.

Mike Ryans Marathon in Hamilton Sets New Canadian Mark

Mike Ryan of the Irish American Athletic Club of New York won the second Canadian Marathon in Hamilton, finishing 26 miles 385 yards in 2 49 19 to set a new course record. Charles Cook of Hamilton was second, Fletcher of Toronto third, with Ryan earning a free trip to England and a year’s challenge trophy plus gold medal and prizes.

June Settlements Require 85 Million for Debts

The Wall Street Journal estimates June needs total about 85 million dollars to cover dividend and interest payments. This exceeds last year by around 5 million and 1908 by about 9 million. Cotton Market Little Change Amid Bearish Tone

A day of small trading with little price movement as quotes slipped about 10 points. The market softened early then steadied slightly, with some selling and later support from bulls. Inactive coffee market reports 12,500 bags sold with prices easing 5 points and final losses of 4 to 10 points. European sessions edge lower with Havre steady to softer and Hamburg down.
