Wright Aeroplane Flies Three Miles At Kill Devil Hill
The Wright brothers completed a three mile flight at Kill Devil Hill with both visiting observers witnessing their execution. The machine rose from its base, looped around a hill and returned to the start, reaching about twenty five feet altitude and an estimated sixty miles per hour before a gentle descent. A earlier shorter flight ended when a tree halted the craft. no one was hurt. Gas engine reliability remained the main remaining challenge for continued flights. A separate Washington balloon ascent carried wireless receiving gear for altitude tests over the Capitol with Lt Lahm and others aboard.
