Berlin May 4 report from the Lokal Anzeiger correspondent says German reinforcements were gathered unobtrusively and their advance took the Russians by surprise with no counter effort noted.
Norwegian ships report a duel between a Mauri class trawler and a German destroyer off the North Sea. The trawler fired back, rammed the destroyer, which then fled toward Zeebrugge after bridge casualties and sailors seen in the water.

Washington May 3 Official confirmation of the attack on the American oil tanker off the Scilly Islands by a German submarine came to the State Department. The vessel was towed to Scilly port with cargo undamaged. Two crewmen drowned, the captain died of heart failure, thirty four saved. President Wilson and Secretary Bryan discussed the case at the White House. Further inquiries will be sent to Berlin and London to ascertain all circumstances before a plan of procedure is framed.
