Fireman Saves Fellow as Four-Story Blaze Kills Man
A noon fire at a four story brick building on First Avenue and Fifteenth Street killed Henry McWilliams fifty, and burned Firemen William McNally and James McEvoy. McNally and McEvoy rescued others, then were badly burned. McNally later died in Bellevue Hospital ambulance. The blaze started in the cellar bakery zone and spread through the dumb waiter shaft. crowd cheered as rescuers pulled McWilliams from the room and pulled McNally and McEvoy to safety. Mgr Edwards clashed with Dr Plumley over emergency treatment, while Acting Fire Chief Purroy praised the rescuers. The damage was about two thousand dollars.
