London dispatch says agitation rose in German towns after a purported Russian revolution report. Wireless service notes unrest in Leipzig and Dresden areas with workshops affected and troops observed in several regiments as disturbances spread Sunday and Monday.
The United States Steel Corporation reported 1916 sales surpassing one billion dollars with total business at 1,231,473,779, up 69 percent from 1915. Dividends totaled 271,581,780 dollars, or 46.40 a share, while net income reached 842,? million and cash deposits rose significantly amid strong mill demand and foreign sales.
British and French forces push toward the Oise valley with French infantry seizing Tergnier and Roupy areas while German vandalism and destruction accompany the retreat. Reports note Coucy le Château ruins dynamited and fifty German girls abducted at Noyon as allied air and ground actions continue along the Cambrai St Quentin Laon front.
Berlin reports an official German Admiralty communique noting 116,000 gross tons of shipping destroyed by submarines in the British Channel Atlantic and North Sea. Sunk vessels include the British armed steamer Connaught, three masted Weasel, fishing steamers Redcap Grazia, Greek steamer Theodoros Pangalos, Norwegian steamers Steeras Dagranger Lars Fastenaes Thede Fagelund, and sailing ship Herns among others.
