Collision near Norfolk injures crew and kills fireman
A Norfolk and Southern Railway collision near Norfolk Station left Fireman Sawyer dead and multiple injuries. Engineer Sullivan sustained painful injuries while Engineer Furcell had a broken hand. A woman passenger was slightly hurt and several others were bruised. The light engine, reversing after the first impact, sped into the depot at seventy mph, wrecking a passenger coach and a car, then stopped. The likely cause cited is misunderstanding of orders aboard New England excursionists.
