Change in Tunnel Route Around Fort George Approved

The change shortens the tunnel by about three quarters of a mile and saves nearly $100,000, routing directly through Amsterdam and Nagle Avenues instead of toward the Hudson River. Approval from municipal authorities and property owners along the new path remains required. Bleecker Street excavation from Greene to Elm Streets, with a large sewer lowered for the tunnel, is completed, marking the first work finished. Appointments announced include Svere Dahm as assistant engineer at 2000 and Peter C. Spence as assistant engineer at 1800.
