Local Railway Stocks Slide After Late Market Bust

Third Avenue defied the trend by rising two points to 110 as Metropolitan and Manhattan sagged on a sharp bear drive. Metropolitan fell from 152% to 147% and Brooklyn Rapid Transit eased from 67 34 to 64% amid 5 400 and 11 000 share blocks respectively. The market drop followed a court decision on a Coney Island fare injunction and fueled theories of interlocking interests and political timing.
