Nurses Drown in River While Rescue Attempt

Fires at Howard Home for Little Wanderers Reported
For the third time in three weeks a fire was found yesterday at the Howard Home for Little Wanderers at 225 East Eleventh Street. The blaze was in a closet near the bathroom on the ground floor, with sixteen children escaping to the street. Superintendent Miss Susan Cliffe and assistant Miss Jennie Hudson fought the flames as 10 year old Herman Arnheim alerted staff, noting all prior fires began in closets from matches. The inmates will go to Bradley Beach, N J for summer. Miss Cliffe says the boy will not be left alone. Thirteen fires have occurred there in three years.
