Albany June 13 The Senate offers a split plan choice to Governor Hughes while Speaker Wadsworth rejects it delaying any agreement. A new joint conference fails to yield a compromise as Raines attacks Woodruff and the Rules Committee amid a looming weeklong session continuation.
Albany June 13 Senator Page’s Supplemental Recount bill to recanvass votes from the May 1906 election passed the Assembly by a 13 to 0 vote. It now goes to Mayor McClellan for approval. The main Recount bill, vetoed by Acting Mayor McGowan, has been re passed by both houses and is with Gov. Hughes for action.
The Assembly unanimously approved the McCarren bill to erect a municipal building at the Manhattan end of the Brooklyn Bridge to house the offices of the Bridge Commissioner. The project is expected on Tryg Row.
Albany June 13. State Treasurer office denies banks loyal to Democrats were favored as withdrawals totaling 645000 are claimed by reporters. An official says the report is untrue and portrays a partisan motive. Only 50 has been withdrawn from New York banks amid deposits and rentals under Hauser.
The Assembly unanimously approved a bill prohibiting New York Police from arming strikebreakers as peace officers. It aims to prevent organizers from contracting to supply strikebreakers who are sworn in as temporary peace officers.
After passing both houses the Wemple bill to revive dead railroad charters was defeated in the Senate by a 17 to 19 vote. The measure had originally extended life of franchises for twenty years and was drafted to fit a single case. the Assembly had reduced it to thirteen years before final concurrence failed.
In Albany on June 13 the Delaware County Republicans nominated Henry J. Williams of Downsville for the Assembly. One ballot was taken. James R. Stevenson, the current representative, received only three votes after being elected on an independent ticket last year. Opposition to Stevenson rests in part on his stance against the Bingham Pace.
Albany reports the Senate approved the Wainwright Corrupt Practices act by 39 to 6. It caps candidate expenses at five dollars unless vouched. The Travis Direct Primary Nominations Bill remains to be enacted after a prior error requiring another Senate passage.
Albany June 18 The Senate concurred in the Assembly amendment to the water powers bill proposing state ownership of water rights. The Assembly raised the appropriation from 10000 to 25000 and the bill now goes to the Governor for action.
Governor Hughes signed several bills in Albany today. One provides that surplus oil waters created by the Barge Canal project cannot be leased, sold, or disposed of until canal improvements are fully completed and authorized by statute. Another measure allows the Superintendent of Public Works to employ an advisory engineer for the Senate Finance Committee.
Mayor McClellan sent the City Magistrates' bill back to Albany after the Legislature recalled it for amendments. A mislaid letter requesting the bill's return was found Wednesday night and located yesterday.
