Survivors Reach Norfolk Describe Pinar del Rio Sinking
Survivors from the American freighter Pinar del Rio report that a German submarine 110 miles northeast of Cape Henry sank the ship after a stern chase. They say a larger mother ship accompanied the U-boat and that two other American vessels were attacked and sunk. The Rio’s captain and 33 crewmen were picked up by a Norwegian vessel and brought to Norfolk with others.
