Mrs. John Singleton, sister of Lillian Graham, sailed from Paris to New York after reading reports on the Stokes shooting. She seeks a U.S. lawyer, plans to bring private papers and possible correspondence to aid Miss Graham, who she says cannot be guilty.
Lillian Graham and Ethel Conrad, jailed on felonious assault charges against W. E. D. Stokes, hotel proprietor, may win bail after tomorrow’s hearing. Stokes’ condition improves. lawyers expect a $25,000 bail each, with bonds arranged by a surety company.
In the Waldorf Astoria Rose Room a tall woman in white with a large hat and a white ostrich plume dined with a white rat on her shoulder. Pepe bit a waiter who handed her the menu, then the guest explained the rat disliked the waiter's voice. The woman, identified as Mrs Mortimer Hancock, left for North Carolina last night.
A patrol wagon with prisoner Samuel Williams, accused of killing his common law wife, vanished after Patrolman Gordon delivered him to City Hospital instead of the Second Precinct. Capt. Cody's alarmed call traced the man to the hospital two hours later as the wagon remained missing.

Police rescued two men from the East River at College Point near the Knickerbocker Yacht Club after their rowboat capsized while returning from a sail aboard John J. Egan’s launch. In Goldendale, Hindu residents were allowed to cremate Deder Singh after his suicide. A large funeral pyre was built on the Columbia River bank and Singh's body was set alight, with ashes scattered into the river, a practice described as barbarous by critics.
In Newburg New York on June 10 the Orange County Traction Company strike ended after workers asked ex Governor Odell to remove an official he refused. Leaders and Odell then met and workers returned to service on the same terms as before the stoppage.
State Controller Lohmer received a $53,000 check as a temporary payment on the transfer tax for the estate of John R. Maxwell who died in Brooklyn on December 1. The payment was made against the Maxwell estate and dated June 10 in Albany.
