Knickerbocker Trust Case Reduces Counsel Fees

The New York Court of Appeals overturns a $75,000 per receiver fee and cuts both the receivers and counsel fees to $20,000 each. Justice Gaynor writes the opinion calling the prior award grossly excessive and tainted by collusion between receivers and directors. The decision affirms a five month tenure for temporary receivers Ernst Thalmann, Henry Ide, and George L. Rives, and notes the case originated in March with Wickersham serving as counsel. A separate item reports the Weis divorce jury failing to reach a verdict and being discharged.
