Runaway Horse Kills Delivery Driver at 130th and Madison
Charles Taul of 9 472 Eighth Avenue was fatally injured when a frightened horse pulling a Simpson Crawford delivery wagon bolted from a residence on the corner of 130th Street and Madison Avenue. The horse dashed along Madison toward 120th, attracting a group of girls who chased the runaway. Taul leaped to grab the reins, slipping and falling as the wagon wheels passed over his abdomen. He was unconscious, received last rites from Father Keenan, and died at Harlem Hospital about an hour later from internal hemorrhage.
