The Hon. Charles Stewart Rolls died when his Wright biplane at Bournemouth crashed after the rear rudders failed. Witnesses describe the rudders snapping free and the machine tumbling, ending England’s early air victory celebrations. King George was informed, and the crowd witnessed a swift and tragic descent.
Miss Margaret Smith of 536 West 136th Street reported to West Thirtieth Street Station that during a Waldorf Astoria dinner she was robbed of a $120 diamond ring. She described meeting a young man at Manhattan Beach, dining with him in New York, and later his companion pawned the ring for $35 before fleeing.

George H. Reitman, 43, custom house broker from 712 East 178th Street, disappeared after taking a rowboat from Labauer's boathouse at Throgg's Neck on Monday morning. His wife Sophie and their four children, plus neighbors, scouted the waters while police launched an inquiry.

Fireman James McGrath crawled along a three inch ledge above a burning four story tenement at 148 Grand Street Williamsburgh to pull an invalid 60 year old Sebast ian Kempf from a window ledge. After lifting the man he and Kempf were brought to safety as the crowd cheered. Both were revived after smoke inhalation. Then at 306 and 565 Kent Avenue McGrath rescued two unconscious children from a second blaze. The fire caused $500 damage at both scenes.
Magistrate E. Gaston Higginbotham intervened in a street brawl outside the Havemeyer Sugar Refinery when about twenty men attacked a lone worker, Joseph Nkus, who had opposed a recent strike. He fought back, knocking some assailants down as police arrived too late for arrests. The worker was treated for injuries at Williamsburg Hospital.
Chicago July 12. The Government issued subpoenas for fifty National Packing Company employees to appear before the Jail Grand Jury Thursday. The special Grand Jury will hear testimony under instructions from Judge E.C. Landis.
Atlanta Ga July 12 after a week of debate the lower house adopted the income tax resolution by 125 to 45 with fourteen members not voting a Senate version was already approved yesterday and prepares for final action in the upper chamber

Thieves broke into Otto H. Kahn's Cedar Court carriage house near Morristown New Jersey just after midnight and nabbed harness before being repelled by caretaker John Tuer.
