Tragedy in Long Point Creek as four men drown
A fishing party from Maspeth, led by William Elbrecht, waded into marshes along Long Point Creek near Jamaica Bay. The tide rose, trapping all four in quicksandlike mud. Elbrecht drowned while companions struggled to free themselves and were saved by wary farmers. The body was recovered after dawn. Bilbrecht was a car conductor and was unmarried.
