Banks 20 Got Down Trust Co Deposits at Wall Street Banks

Large Wall Street banks move to curb overreliance on trust company deposits to gain 2 percent interest, limiting deposits and input from out of town banks. Reports show a big rise in trust company deposits in New York with rates under 2 percent and even 1 percent at times. Banks may refuse interest on deposits beyond a fixed maximum, while trust companies cut individual deposit rates to reflect changing conditions. The Clearing House data also shows shifts in loans, securities, and overall resources. The State Banking Department approves a new Corn Exchange Bank branch at the Terminal Building, Church and Dey Streets, opening around Sept 1.

The six month legal period for foreclosure on Morse Consolidated Steamship Lines bonds expired yesterday, with a reorganization plan by the bondholders led by Alvin W. Krech expected to be announced. The plan would exchange old 4 percent collateral bonds for new 5 percent bonds at two for ten, plus new preferred and common stock, delaying interest payments to January 1, 1910. After a prior exchange offer, most bonds were swapped for new bonds and stock, but interest on A and B issues has been irregular, with July payments omitted for those bonds as some holders still contest terms.
