Panic in River Crash Between Bergen and Pegasus

A collision occurred in the North River between the Lacka wanna ferry Bergen and the Coney Island steamer Pegasus as both vessels tried to dock. Strong tide and tight space led to a crash. passengers panicked and life preservers were used. Pegasus suffered heavy damage and was laid up for repairs while Bergen resumed service later.

30 Girls Go Overboard in Hudson River Accident

A Harlem Roman Catholic church group of about thirty girls rode a fifty foot naphtha launch from 116th Street to Forest Grove New Jersey. The awning collapsed as many leaned out for photos and the boat overturned. One girl was found drowned at Forest Grove, while others were believed saved as police and local undertakers investigated.

200 Foot Ferry Rack Sinks Above Tunnels

A 200 foot ferry rack in the East Thirty-fourth Street ferry slip sank several feet and left only pile tops visible after a blowout in Tube D of the tunnels under the East River. A scow was nearly pulled under, tugged to safety, and crews began rapid wreckage removal with a seventy-man gang as ferry service continued on a limited schedule.

Unusual operation lets West Point cadet walk again

Walter Wilde a West Point fourth classman who was three inches shorter after a riding accident last fall underwent a rare procedure at Polyclinic Hospital Philadelphia. Surgeons rebroken his right leg attached a heavy weight to stretch and realign the bones for two months. The weight was removed and Wilde stood again signaling a return to the academy next fall.

Fire at Lewis Street tenement forces 20 families out

A man cleaning a mattress with benzine and a lamp started a blaze at 108 Lewis Street around 1 45 this morning. Twenty families fled the building as smoke and flames filled the lower floors. Firemen brought the fire under control after about half an hour, with no serious damage and three alarms sounded.
