Honest debtor settles old banknote after years
In 1896 a bank discounted a $1500 note from a man later discharged in 1902 bankruptcy. The note was treated as worthless until the debtor, now in Germany, sent $2500 with interest to settle the obligation. The bank president, then a clerk, recalled the transaction and thanked the payer for clearing the debt.
