Boston Orchestra Delivers Mixed Handel and MacDowell Program
The Boston Symphony Orchestra's second Carnegie Hall concert featured Handel arrangements by Gustav Kogel, Edward MacDowell's suite in A minor, and Hermann Goetz's symphony. The program shift due to Carl Wendling's indisposition saw MacDowell's work praised for color but labeled not among his strongest. The reviewer notes the ensemble's dexterity and Mack's conducting but criticizes audience apathy and finds Goetz's piece pleasantly melodic yet lightweight.
