Right 10 boycott defeated in House

In Washington on January 11, House Republicans defeated a Democratic amendment seeking to enshrine the right of labor unions to strike and boycott in the anti conspiracy section of the Penal Code. Sherley of Kentucky led the fight against the measure, arguing it was not the proper place for such a law, while he faced clashes with fellow Democrats and received Republican support. The proposed amendments, offered by Smith of Missouri and Hughes of New Jersey, aimed to restrict or clarify union actions, but the section remained unchanged after a motion by Champ Clark to strike the last clause passed without opposition.
