The Rev Farl C Davis of Pittsfield Mass converted to support licensing arguing Maine shows license prevents kitchen bars and evils of unregulated drink. He cites Auburn Lewiston Maine with many kitchen barrooms and says Pittsfield would face worse outcomes under prohibition without licensed oversight.
In a famous remark the Irish patriot argues that Ireland's health and the breweries' prosperity are intertwined. He asserts the trade as vital for subsistence and a natural nurse of the people, deserving favors and exemptions while predicting Parliament will see it as a wealth source and local remedy for intoxication.
