John R. T. Whitman, formerly of E. G. Whitman, Son & Co, was struck by a trolley on Clarissa Street and Wayne Avenue in Philadelphia. He died at St Luke's Hospital after leg injuries and head trauma. Whitman had walked nightly and left home moments before. The Whitman firm is now Stephen F. Whitman & Son, Inc.

Minnie Palmer about 35 was found dead on the Balmville farm porch with a bullet wound to the brain and a revolver with two empty cartridges beside her. She had visited Charles V. Phelps and left notes alleging heartbreak and threats toward Electra Lamphere. Phelps says Electra Scribner, an 18 year old student, is his ward and that he had known Mrs. Palmer for years. The case prompts police inquiry into the motives, with no husband located.
The body found in a lodgings house at 72 Bowery was identified as Richard Worthington 65 formerly of Cooperstown New York and brother of John Worthington a former U S Consul in Malta. George W Millar of Millar & Co examined the body at the Morgue confirming the identification and arranging burial. Worthington described as a ne er do well by Millar.
Rear Admiral William P. Potter was injured this morning at the Navy Department Building after a fall on stone steps near the White House reception. Initial reports said serious injuries but at the Naval Dispensary he was found to have a broken nose. He tripped at the head of the steps and fell against the railing.
In SOUTH BETHLEHEM PENN on January 1 Charles M Schwab president of Bethlehem Steel Works ordered time clocks installed in all departments to regulate attendance. He will be among those affected as he has assigned himself a number tasks will begin with enforcement from top to bottom.

Ensign H C Ridgely of the torpedo boat Smith is in critical condition at Norfolk Naval Hospital after falling from a trapeze on the Smith in the Norfolk Yard. He fractured his skull when his hands slipped and he was hurled to the deck. A report of falling down an open hatchway was denied. Ridgely, a Chicago resident, has a Johns Hopkins physician en route from Washington, and his recovery is described as very slim.
James Creelman III president of the Municipal Civil Service Commission has been ill for two weeks from overwork. He collapsed at his desk on the Monday before Christmas and was in serious condition. He has since improved and hopes to resume duties in a week or two, believing his work on the Civil Service law is largely finished and could be put into action soon.
Miss Lucy Buckler daughter of Mr and Mrs William H Buckler plans to join her parents on an Asia Minor expedition. Her father will take part in net studies at Sardis with Dr David Robinson and other Johns Hopkins affiliated scientists. Buckler may spend time there if health permits and aims to enter Oxford University archaeology.
