Albany caucuses open to public as Republicans hold sessions

In Albany on December 31 the Republican caucuses in both the Senate and Assembly were open to the public for the first time in years. Virtually no attendees were present. changes were minor with Jacob Kemple replacing Henry Pollock as doorkeeper. George M. Palmer was nominated for Speaker by the Assembly Democrats, praising Admiral Schley amid criticism of the federal administration.

Young Mann Died of Broken Neck

The nineteen year old Holbrook Mann son of Rev. Charles H. Mann of Orange New Jersey died at his parents home after a long illness from a broken neck suffered when diving into shallow water at Bailey's Island Maine over sixteen months earlier. He lay paralyzed from the neck down and had shown slight improvement during summer before deteriorating. His case resembled Walter Duryea of Long Island who also broke his neck but recovered.
