In Washington the Senate moved toward adopting amendments to the Army Appropriation bill affecting the Philippines and Cuba. Chicago reports Roy Sampson, a workman, started a blaze at the Waukegan organ stop factory of R. Alden by tossing a lighted match into a barrel of celluloid scraps. Two young female workers died from burns while three others were injured on the two story main building. The escape routes were blocked by fire with a fifteen foot drop to the snow. The victims refused to jump.
Fireman Joseph McCarthy 35 of Engine Company 26 on the Strathmore eighth floor fell to the fifth while washing down. He was found bleeding from a head wound and with a fractured right leg. Lieutenant Malley dispatched an ambulance from Roose- likely for transport to a hospital.

In Austin on February 26, J M Guffey and J H Galey announced the Great Lucas oil gusher will be burned off. About 300000 barrels stranded in a 75 acre earth reservoir will be diverted into ditches and set alight next week. The burn could last days as the area is soaked with oil.
