Senators Spooner and Platt push to attach a Teller amendment to the Army Appropriation bill to guide Cuba policy without new Congress. Directors of the Board of Trade plan to rescind the rule barring elevator proprietors from storing their own grain in their warehouses. Capts Brasted and Aiken led a dozen-strong crew to battle flames that could have caused a devastating blast. A three way agreement among Baltimore and Ohio, Western Maryland, and Reading railroads expands freight traffic from the West to Philadelphia and New York and increases Baltimore coal movement. Western Maryland doubles its track and surveys for a new line to Somerset coal fields. President Hood says ten larger locomotives join a pool with Philadelphia and Reading engines, with fourteen more to follow, expanding through mileage between Hagerstown and Harrisburg.
J J Hill plans a Sioux Falls to Denver extension to shorten Twin Cities travel. A Wabash westbound passenger train struck a sleigh near Goshen Indiana killing Christian Wagner Christian Dearing and Louis Wagner instantly. Several others injured as the horses escaped and the sled was demolished at a crossing considered dangerous a quarter mile from the Wabash station.

Police Captain Flood led detectives to the Place Hotel at 814 Park Avenue and seized about 1500 gambling chips along with cash and instruments. Eleven prisoners were taken, including alleged manager Victor Josephson and others from addresses in Manhattan and the Bronx. Magistrate Crane bailed them out after midnight.
Police led by Mulberry Street detectives Burke and Gallagher raid a basement gambling den at 258 Elizabeth Street. Proprietors Vincenzo Fortuno and Salvatore Lutchi arrested with twelve others, with seven fifty seized in cash and several card packs. All detainees held at Mulberry Street Station.
