In St Johnsbury Vermont on February 21 Jonathan Ross former U S Senator and Vermont Chief Justice was driving with his wife when their sleigh was struck by a west bound freight train at Goulds Crossing two miles from East St Johnsbury Mrs Ross was killed and Judge Ross gravely injured The sleigh was demolished and both victims were thrown clear of the wreck The train stopped and they were taken to the town by caboose A broken hip and shock raised fears for the elderly judge’s fate
