The Army of the Potomac front lines show ongoing fortifications and rapid tent-home construction as winter weather improves. Lieut-Col Tarwaczs, misnamed in reports, dies from wounds. Capt Fosars dies after a fall caused by horse mishap. Mayor Bracuone and Lieut Laxuin suffer heavy wounds. Lieut Keir wounded. other units report multiple casualties and ongoing operations along the new line.
The movement to night completes the object for which the operation was undertaken. The Army pushes toward the South Side Road and Hatcher's Run, gaining a foothold south of Petersburg. The Fifth Corps repulsed diverging enemy advances, held Dabney Mills, and kept a secure line despite heavy rains and tough fighting.
