Albany February 9 Gov Roosevelt travels to New York for a conference with Senator Thomas Platt to declare he will not accept any future nomination to the Vice Presidency and he will decline even if urged by delegates at the Philadelphia convention He aims to serve another term and says machine bosses would fear his independence could block their plans

Ladysmith February 7 An armored train from Chieveley reached toward Colenso and landed 2 000 British troops on the Boer right. Boers crossed the river and attacked with rifles and artillery forcing the withdrawal to Chieveley. Firing at Colenso continued since 5 this morning.
On February 2 Col. Plumer's force attacked the Boer position near Ramatsa, engaging in heavy fighting and an attempted storming of the place. The British were repulsed with unknown losses. no Boers were reported injured.
