Son Kills Mother Over Money Dispute at Tenement

In a grim West Eighteenth Street murder, 33-year-old Arthur Trotter killed his mother, Anna Trotter, after a long pattern of demands for money. The son, released from Blackwell’s Island days earlier, strangled and hacked the 60-year-old widow with an axe, then attempted to burn the body before leaping from a second-floor window. He was captured and sent to Bellevue for a psychiatric exam after police and a coroner weighed insanity before the case proceeds.
