Life Association Leaders Repaid 50000 Bonus in 1904

Testimony shows Henry B Townsley and Eugene Van Schaick used company funds and stock as collateral for loans from Gansevoort Bank and Citizens Trust. They later repaid a 50000 bonus to themselves under state orders while the Life Association reorganized from 1900 to 1904.

Company Retains Town Send McClelland Law Firm

Hearings were held before Deputy Superintendent of Insurance Robert Hunter. United States General Appraiser Charles P. McClelland of the House of Mirth fame was a member. The matter was adjusted so the company may continue. The hearing will resume at 10:30 this morning.

Northwestern Mutual Life dinner prompts investigation request

John I D Bristol managers in New York City for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance hosted a dinner for over 100 conservative life insurance experts at the Waldorf Astoria. A petition was signed urging a legislative inquiry to extend investigation to officers of Northwestern and similar firms before the session ends. Lawson Purdy argued against Federal recognition of insurance, noting concerns about federal versus state supervision, citing banking history in Pennsylvania.

Supreme Court affirms NY ruling against Mutual Reserve Life

The U S Supreme Court today affirmed the New York ruling in Mutual Reserve Life Insurance Co v Birch assignee. The verdict includes 10 percent damages plus interest and costs on life insurance contracts issued in North Carolina. No written opinion was issued.
