A fire at the Engineers Club on West Fortieth Street caused more than 100000 in damage and forced 350 guests from rooms. Six women employees were rescued by an elevator runner who braved a smoke filled shaft to reach their dorm on the thirteenth floor. The blaze confined to the twelfth and thirteenth floors threatened the Engineers Society library at 35 West Thirty-ninth Street before being contained.

Van Alen Sells New York City Home Over Prohibition Fears
J J Van Alen of New York and Newport sold his four story house at 15 East Sixty fifth Street to Rufus L Patterson vice president of the American Tobacco Company. The $200000 property, a copy of a famous house in dew, was completed about a year ago and lies east of the Astor mansion. Patterson plans to move in early next year. Van Alen says prohibition would be disastrous and notes many would relocate abroad. He intends to live in England but spend summers at Newport.

Parole Clerk's Case Adjourned in City Court
