Arbuckle Tells How Yankee Was Floated From Sunken Cruiser
At John Arbuckle's request, Capt. McAllister and engineers recount salvaging the cruiser Yankee from Hen and Chickens Shoals. They used a 150 ton concrete cofferdam and compressed air to dry holds, repair damage, and raise the bow, then tow the ship to New Bedford. The method is praised as a potential future naval and merchant saving technique.
