Chicago August 4 Kennesaw Mountain Landis famed for the Oil Trust fine of 29 million dollars was born in Ohio in 1866. He studied in India and earned a Chicago Union College of Law degree in 1890. He joined Northwestern Law as faculty then became private secretary to Walter Q Gresham and played a role in diplomatic affairs at the capital.

Motorman Charles Byrnes and conductor John Linclot were jailed, with Tarbell and Woodson blaming the motorman for the crash.
Peter L. McGue of 988 Union Ave Bronx a chauffeur for leather merchant Charles Schubert of 5 White St and resident 14 East Sixty-eighth St was held in $1500 bail by Coroner Shrady for examination on a homicide charge after a motor vehicle crash near East Street, with Barry of 27 East Street providing details of the incident.

J E Hess of Dallas reports from Rockwall County thirty miles northeast of Dallas that excavations seek ruins of a buried city beneath a three foot soil cover over a twenty mile sandstone wall. The wall stands about forty feet high and slab stones unearthed are uniform and symmetric.
Jackson Mississippi August 4 Until 1h votes cast in the Democratic primary are canvassed this week the result for the United States Senator nomination remains in doubt. Unofficial returns show a lead of more than a thousand votes for Congressman John Sharp Williams over Gov. Vardaman, but neither concede defeat awaiting official review to determine the nomination.
Four people were struck by lightning near Fulton, fifteen miles from Jacksonville Illinois, killing Charles L. Eddy Jr. aged 14. The bolt entered a building door injuring others, while a fire at the Armour Fertilizer plant in Jacksonville destroyed the factory valued at 80,000 dollars and damaged fertilizer stock 235,000 dollars, insured.
