Milwaukee labor leaders promote a national day of protest in early May against President Roosevelt over Moyer Haywood and Pettibone. The Milwaukee Federated Trades Council plans to seek a unified date from national officials and urge allied unions to join by letter.
Chicago labor figures denounce President Roosevelt for his letter to Honoré Jaxon of the Cook County Moyer Haywood Conference calling his stance against labor unmanly. Pittsburg April 24 P J McArdle national president of the Amalgamated Association denounces Roosevelt’s letter criticizing Debs Haywood and Moyer as childish and lacking concrete evidence. He says the president must cite specific instances of lawlessness to support his claim or omit these men from his statement.
Joseph Boero of the Moyer Haywood Pettibone Protest Conference denounces perceived presidential lawlessness and calls for protests from coast to coast to challenge what they label kidnapping and detention contrary to the Constitution. Gordon Phillips a Burling ton crippled Negro sits jailed in Burlington County for $2.75 in poll tax and costs from 1890 law. He has been prisoner since Aug 25 and cannot pay or work, potentially remaining jailed for life unless funds are raised. The county would need a much larger jail if this were applied to all delinquents.

Several people were bruised with no serious injuries reported. the passenger engine and freight caboose were demolished.
The steamer City of Hudson of the Catskill Evening Line ran on the rocks during a high wind and rain storm near Tivoli. The starboard wheelhouse was wrecked but no other major damage occurred. Floated by a tug, it was taken to Hudson for discharge and repairs, delaying service for several days.
Five minutes after the show opened in the East End Pittsburgh venue a tank holding 100000 gallons of water burst flooding parts of the gardens and ruining decorations. Several hundred patrons fled for exits in a panic but no injuries were reported.
Thaddeus S. Ross a 35 year old Post Office clerk was shot and killed by his former sweetheart Isabelle Stroup 28 who then shot herself in the heart. Ross had planned to marry Drusilla Sampsell tonight in Oil City Pennsylvania while Miss Stroup a hospital worker from Bradford called him by phone during his dinner hour. The shooting happened in Dr George W Magees office and both bodies blocked the door until discovered.
Frank Walker, son of a former Chesapeake & Ohio Railway official and grandson of Justice Roger A. Pryor, committed death by own action last night by taking strychnine at a friend’s residence. He announced the act to guests, but the statement was not believed until convulsions began. Ill health likely caused the act after three recent severe stomach operations.
