In Philadelphia an automobile carrying John F. Betz Jr and William Oliver collided with a street car. Betz suffered a broken nose, lost teeth, a broken hand and possible internal injuries. Oliver sustained severe cuts and possible internal injuries. Driver Bernard Pierson escaped injury. John McFillin was less injured. The crash occurred when the chauffeur could not control the car. Betz and Oliver were taken to Medico-Chiral Hospital.
Former French Finance Minister Paul Doumer, in his underwear, battled a hotel telephone lineman he mistook for a burglar in the Hotel Schenley. Attaches freed the man after he explained the lineman had been sent to repair the telephone in Doumer’s suite.
