A Civil War era dispatch reports skirmishing near Hancock Maryland with Rebels driven back and Cumberland cited as a Rebel crossing point. It notes Milroy leading 9 000 mounted and infantry near Williamsport, and Hancock harboring rebel activity.
Rebel and Union cavalry clash near Aldie with heavy losses on both sides. Col Douty mortally wounded in a four hour engagement as Kilpatrick’s men pursue retreating Rebels toward Aldie Gap. reports place Lee and Ewell’s forces maneuvering for a larger potential raid.
A fragmented 19th century dispatch describes Union belt and fortification barriers across a 100 by 150 mile zone in North Carolina and Virginia. It notes Rebel coastal and inland routes, large Confederate forces forming in Tennessee and South Carolina, and Gov. Vance saying troops are unavailable as citizens seek self defense amid a new military pAct.

Cenervart, June 19, 1969. The enrolling officer in Boone County, Indiana, was captured by several men on Monday as women pelted him with eggs. A number of the most active partisans have been arrested. Fletcher Freeman, the enrolling officer of Sullivan County, Indiana, was shot dead yesterday while riding along a country road.
Gov Parker asks Commodore Brockton to command New Jersey troops as part of defense for Pennsylvania. Col Kaige named Chief of Cavalry. Regiment musters and mustering out actions noted. Recruitment underway for infantry cavalry artillery with bounties offered for three year service. News reflects wartime mobilization and local political support.
