A lengthy Civil War summary reports siege status at Vicksburg, Rebel quarter rations, dwindling ammunition, and Grant's forces near the Yazoo. It includes dispatches via Cairo and Richmond, cannonade details, and Confederate morale notes alongside sensational notes on Jackson and Cameron.
Dispatches from General Welker in Previaligo report enemy shelling the town of Hiausfen and a counterattack repelled. A later report cites Confederate forces delaying advances along the Combahee River where roughly 1,000 enslaved people died and property valued around 1,060,080 was destroyed.
From Helena Arkansas it is reported that Gen Price moved his force from Little Rock to Fort Smith leaving only one regiment. Gen Marmaduke is at Jacksonport. The country between White River and St Frank's is patrolled by 600 to 700 guerrillas under Cal. Dubbing. They operate as far as near Helena, making the region dangerous.
Official report from Leadquarters of the army of the United Sister describes May operations near Guin Sinvannye. Col J R Richer Jones commands a mixed force attacking enemy works, with cavalry and artillery, capturing prisoners, horses, ambulances, and materiel while suffering two killed, five wounded, and one missing.
From the Potomac region a dispatch reports no decisive Rebel movement at Fredericksburg, while rumors persist of Lee’s forces active on the river bank below the town. Wounded and prisoner counts are listed from the 84th Division with several Vermont and New Jersey units noted, alongside social events and military orders.
