Evacuation of Fort Pillow and Port Randolph Reported
Messages from the fleet indicate Fort Pillow was evacuated and Port Randolph deserted as gunboats moved down the river toward Memphis. The De Soto arrived from the fort with rebels said to have burned fort facilities, destroyed gear and cotton, while Union troops reportedly occupied works downstream with the flotilla converging toward Memphis.
