Two Barn Fires and a Runaway Wreck Nearby

A Roeder barn south of Hauenstein brewery burned to the ground after an early Sunday fire. Damage valued in the hundreds, origin uncertain, suspected hoboes. A second incident at Merchant's Hotel occurred Monday morning with smoke and blaze contained by quick action. Mrs Olsen and Mr Borg helped extinguish before the fire department arrived. A runaway wagon injured Henry Sehnobrich near Stuebe's farm when the yoke snapped, horses bolted toward the Chicago Northwestern line, throwing him from the wagon with an injured left ankle.

Week's Nuptials Highlight Quiet City Weddings

In Tracy two ceremonies bind couples in marriage. Eloise Verne James and Jerome Louis Fritsche wed at the bride’s home with only family present, as Rev. Dobson officiated. The bride, a local figure and graduate, plans to reside in Minneapolis with her groom, a dental student. Adjacent notices report Eva Brinkmann and Adolph W. Schilling uniting at Friedens Church with a reception and homegoing plans in Lafayette and Courtland. Runaway Cart Halts Swiftly After Narrow Escape

A wagon derailed along the fence line but the rig remained intact and horses unharmed. An injured man received immediate medical care while the driver and townsfolk assisted. The team was extricated and the wagon loaded with meat for transport to town without further incident.

Derailment Delays Northwestern Train Near Mankato

A derailment on the Omaha road forced the westbound Northwestern passenger train to run about five hours late. The delay occurred as the train was held at Mankato to await the Minneapolis passenger on the former line.

County Board Special Meeting Approves Assessments and Grants

The County Commissioners meet at the courthouse with full attendance to set hearings on reassessment in Burnstown Milford and Stark. They grant auction licenses, approve school and road reports, authorize warrants and drainage work, plan a War Department cannon display, and adjourn after approving sidewalk and roadway payments.

A large gathering in Nicollet county honored Governor John A. Johnson with the unveiling of a nine foot statue at the county courthouse. The St Peter ceremony featured remarks from local officials and visiting dignitaries, a flag unveiling by Helen and Viola Johnson, and a band escort. The replica statue from the state capitol cost about 21,400 dollars with the St Peter version costing 3,000 dollars. The event drew 5,000 attendees and a special New Ulm train.

Clever Escape Attempt by Duluth Doctor Found at Prison

Officials report Dr J Arnold of Duluth attempted to escape from the St Peter hospital for the criminally insane. A candy box sent to him concealed three steel saws and morphine. An investigation by US postal authorities and the State Board of Control is likely to send Arnold back to Duluth for trial. The board also approved hospital mail openings to curb drug access. A New Ulm Commercial Club meeting plans to boost membership and discuss armory matters. G H Becker, who runs a South Minnesota restaurant, was bitten by his new English setter, feared hydrophobia but no disease developed.

Bold intruder enjoys comfort at Adam home rescue

Mrs. Anton Adam woke in their Cottonwood Roller mill area home to a fire in the summer kitchen and found missing Otto Adam’s fur lined overcoat cap and her butcher knife. Her husband and sons tracked a tramp to Hunters Rest where the man wore Otto’s coat and cap. A confrontation with a shotgun led to the return of the coat and knife, the hat remaining unaccounted. The tramp fled.

Appeal Over Curt Road Case Reversed for Jurisdiction Error

Last Friday the appeal of Willian Boelskamp from the Town Board of Supervisors order laying out of a curt was noticed for trial before Judge Olsen in Chambers. The merits were not considered as the Judge granted the appellant's motion to reverse the order due to jurisdictional defects in the petition and proceedings.
