Doctor Stamm Dies After Forty Years Practice in St Paul

The veteran Swiss born physician Gottfried Stamm known as a good Samaritan to Germans in Minnesota died in St Paul on a cancer of the intestines after more than forty years of practice. He served as Minnesota consul in 1889 and left six children, with burial to be attended by family members in St Paul.

Lehrers Wanderings Ended in Minneapolis Death

Joseph Lehrer, a former New Ulm resident and brother of Springfield capitalist M Lehrer, was killed instantly Thursday evening after falling down a Minneapolis stairway. He had left North Dakota harvest fields to visit sights before moving to Springfield, urged by his brother to settle there.

Caspar Olstad Succeeds Kohn as Local Manager

Otto Kohn resigns as local manager of Minnesota Central Telephone Company. Caspar Olstad of Hanska, former Hanska Rural Telephone manager, is selected to lead the New Ulm office, approved by business leaders. Hanska post is filled by Einar Toenberg with Morris Williams of Mankato as assistant.

Gutterson Seeks Republican Nomination for Congress

After a three month European tour Gilbert Gutterson returned to Washington and announced plans to file again for the Second District Minnesota Republican nomination. He intends to canvass the district thoroughly and notes he narrowly missed beating McCleary a year ago. Ward of Fairmont could alter the race if a third candidate enters. Mr and Mrs Henry Hildebrandt of St Peter have been visiting since Wednesday.

Freight Trains Collide On Northwestern Line

A rear end collision on the Northwestern track near St Louis caused an estimated $20,000 in damage. No lives were lost and all crew escaped unharmed after jumping from the engines. The wreck involved an engine, caboose and multiple cars, with barley and wheat containers among the debris and stock cars nearby. Firemen quickly fought the blaze in the caboose.

Three thousand spectators watched a slow track at the fair grounds as Lee W swept the 2:10 trot and 2:17 pace with Alice Medium second. Dan Jeffers dominated the 2:27 trot and 2:35 pace, while Billy Wiggs won the half mile running race. Henry Steinhauser visited Lambert to stay with his brother Emil.

What has become of Towne a vanished hotelkeeper and warden

G Town e disappeared from Mankato after leaving debts totalling hundreds of dollars. Former Springfield hotel proprietor and Brown county game warden, Towne last ran the City Hotel in Mankato before vanishing. Creditors in Mankato pursue rent, bar fixtures, and furniture balances while Towne’s fate is traced to Spokane with uncertain details. Southwick reports $800 advanced to settle rent and mortgage, now unfulfilled. Himmelmann and another creditor press for liquidation or foreclosure before any lease can proceed. Towne had opposed a Democratic successor, labeling him a dead beat.
