Two hundred residents from St Paul and Minneapolis joined a German-American excursion Sunday organized by the Minneapolis and St. Louis railroad. They arrived in New Ulm around noon and, despite a nervous split within the Turnverein, enjoyed music, dancing, and camaraderie before departing.
A weekend downpour centered on New Ulm flooded low lands and damaged the Minneapolis & St. Louis and Northwestern rail routes. Washouts and landslides blocked lines for hours, with crews rebuilding via steam shovel and cribbing. The Cottonwood river rose sharply, flooding meadows and hay, while streets and gutters suffered.
The King Dodo operetta by Pixley and Luders plays at Turner Theatre in ten days with Richard Golden in the title role. A large crowd is expected for the September 26 performance with elaborate coronation scenes and twenty one musical numbers including Bumble Bee and Look in the Book and See. The production features a strong cast of seventy five at New Ulm, lavish Henry W. Savage costumes, and a full orchestra.
W. Johnson and driver Chas Toberer were returning from Schell and Hauenstein breweries when an umbrella startled their horse. Johnson fell after leaping from the carriage striking his head and cutting an artery. Toberer was bruised and unconscious but saved by a nearby house. Johnson was treated at the Dakota House by a physician.
