Local sportsmen finish final preparations for the hunting season opening tomorrow. Many will head to lakes, ponds, and sloughs to be on hand at first light. Wild ducks are not plentiful, but prairie chickens are reported in abundance nearby.

Auto and Team Collide on Linden New Ulm Road
A Ford driven by H. A. Hanson of Linden collided with a team and wagon on the Linden New Ulm road Wednesday evening. All auto occupants were injured except the baby. Hanson suffered cuts to the hand and Emil Lodes fractured ribs. Lenora Evenson was thrown through the windshield with severe cuts needing stitches. Mrs Hanson sustained severe injuries. all injured are recovering.

Military funeral for Private Swen M Johnson at Lafayette
Private Swen M Johnson the second Nicolet county boy to die in France during World War I was laid to rest with full military honors in Lafayette. Funeral services were held at his parents home conducted by Revs Swanson and Lundquist, followed by burial in Lafayette cemetery. Johnson enlisted September 20 1917 trained at Camps Dodge and Pike sailed for France May 1918 with his unit assigned to the Fourth Division and killed July 21 1918 at Chateau Thierry while serving with Company H 48th Infantry. He was born November 19 1894 in Skaraborg Sweden and came to Lafayette with his parents. He leaves three brothers and four sisters.

H A Hildebrandt of Minneapolis visited his cousin Henry F Lehraden and family on North Washington street. He is superintendent of buildings and grounds for the University of Minnesota and toured the new municipal electric light and waterworks plant with Mr Schrader. He praised the plant highly, said it compares with the best in the state, and noted the $260,000 bond issue was floated locally without outside capital. He commended public spirit for this achievement.

The Second District American Legion will hold its fall convention in New Ulm October 7 and 8 at the Armory. Schools Emptied In Record Time By Quick Fire Drills
Deputy Bice Marshall J. B. Forster conducted unannounced drills at local public and parochial schools. Holy Trinity Catholic School emptied 545 pupils in five and one fifth seconds, Washington 144 in 40 seconds, Lincoln 95 in 34.2 seconds, high school 222 in 12.96 seconds, and Emerson 256 in 26.8 seconds. All buildings were found in excellent condition with minimal fire hazards and active preparations for emergency drills continue.

Must Stay in Jail Gust Gilferson Bound Over
Gust Gilferson and three former Springfield Isaloonkeepers were bound over to the grand jury for the December term on a charge of issuing an unbanked check for 1420.54 to the Appust Shell Brewing Co. in the city. He remains in county jail until court convenes Monday December 12 unless bail is obtained. A proceeding in district court chambers denied his release. Miss Elizabeth Schott of Franklin underwent a minor operation at Union Hospital Wednesday afternoon and returned home Friday.
