Six young men from the city escaped unhurt when the Ford driven by Anton Schmitz Jr veered off a grade near the Henry Simmet farm Lafayette township and slid eight feet down an embankment after a Buick stalled on ascent. The car toppled onto a tree stump, the back seat kept occupants safe, though top and windshield were damaged. Other auto drivers nearby also faced danger but managed to avoid further injury. The group was en route to the Wlesener dance. The following morning a second crash occurred near New Ulm when John Golla’s Ford-Touring collided head-on with a Reo near the old Prul farm south of town, damaging a front wheel and tire. Golla continued to Minneapolis for repairs.

Buick Car Found After Theft At Stony Falls
A seven passenger Buick Model 1921 was found deserted on a road near Cobden after being stolen from Stony Falls, S D. It was towed to a Sleepy Eye garage where the motor was found damaged. Police learned the theft involved a fur store robbery worth about $4. The report also notes Otis Stellies, son of Mr and Mrs Henry Stellies, left for Morton Grove Illinois to take a position as a parochial school teacher, his first teaching post.

Eckstein Recovers and Returns to Courthouse Duties
County Attorney W. T. Eckstein, injured when his Kissel bar plunged down an embankment at Second South street, has recovered enough to leave Loretto Hospital. He had about 20 stitches removed from his scalp, and on Wednesday resumed his official duties at the courthouse, appearing none the worse for the harrowing incident.
