Fair displays fill Brown County cattle barn and grandstand

Brown County farmers showcased prize cattle and horses at the annual fair. The new cattle barn and grandstand were packed, with the Baby Beef Club and prize ribbons highlighting dairy shows. Old Classmates Reunite After Fifty Years Near Rochester

Carl Schwartz of North Broadway and William Mueller of Stearns County met in New Ulm last Tuesday, their first visit since boyhood, reuniting after 68 years apart. Both born in Germany, they shared memories of emigration to America after Civil War times, settling near Greenwood Prairie before moving to New Ulm and Rochester.

Exciting Trip to Maennerchor Fest Disaster Free Return

A party of New Ulm Turn Verein members and guests traveled to Young America for the Maennerchor celebration. A series of vehicle troubles halted and reshaped their journey, including a Ford breakdown, a Nash bearing burnout, a van Rein reversal, and a late arrival. Despite mishaps, the group arrived, performed at the ball park, and returned home safely with stories of misadventure. The visitors commend Young America hospitality, noting all meals and dance tickets were complimentary.

Canoeists Arrive From Mankato For River Trip

About two dozen youths from Mankato came here on an army truck Sunday, launched three canoes on the Minnesota river, and floated downstream on the homeward journey. Mies Lucille Buschers and Herbert and George Huschers returned Friday from a car trip to Toledo Ohio, after a two week visit. George Buttkes and Robert Taylor of Mankato were in town Monday and yesterday, attending a baseball game between Loyd of Minneapolis and New Wim.

Bridge Contract Awarded For Mound Creek Crossing

The 4 concrete bridge project over Mound creek in Stately township sections 3 and 4 was awarded to Jake A. Maier of Comfrey for 1535 dollars by town supervisors and County Commissioner John M. Joimeon. Seven bids were submitted. competing bids ranged from 1798 to 2590 dollars with Pullman Bros New Ulm at 1945 and Lundin Bros Mankato at 2590. A modern crossing is needed as no bridge has existed there, forcing long detours.

Auto Plunge Injures No One In Narrow Wabash Dance Trip

Six young men from the city escaped unhurt when the Ford driven by Anton Schmitz Jr veered off a grade near the Henry Simmet farm Lafayette township and slid eight feet down an embankment after a Buick stalled on ascent. The car toppled onto a tree stump, the back seat kept occupants safe, though top and windshield were damaged. Other auto drivers nearby also faced danger but managed to avoid further injury. The group was en route to the Wlesener dance. The following morning a second crash occurred near New Ulm when John Golla’s Ford-Touring collided head-on with a Reo near the old Prul farm south of town, damaging a front wheel and tire. Golla continued to Minneapolis for repairs.

Buick Car Found After Theft At Stony Falls

A seven passenger Buick Model 1921 was found deserted on a road near Cobden after being stolen from Stony Falls, S D. It was towed to a Sleepy Eye garage where the motor was found damaged. Police learned the theft involved a fur store robbery worth about $4. The report also notes Otis Stellies, son of Mr and Mrs Henry Stellies, left for Morton Grove Illinois to take a position as a parochial school teacher, his first teaching post.

Locals Rally in Labor Day Baseball at Red Wood Falls

Local players boasted three wins and two losses as New Ulm, Sibley, Lafayette, Fairfax and Fairfax battled at the Red Wood Falls Fair Grounds. Highlights included a home run by Shea, three-base hit by McGovern, and a 5 1 score at the fifth inning.

Eckstein Recovers and Returns to Courthouse Duties

County Attorney W. T. Eckstein, injured when his Kissel bar plunged down an embankment at Second South street, has recovered enough to leave Loretto Hospital. He had about 20 stitches removed from his scalp, and on Wednesday resumed his official duties at the courthouse, appearing none the worse for the harrowing incident.

Courtland Arrests Lead to Fines in City Court

Bee Reell of Courtland was arrested by Spectaiter Charlés Lindamann in the afternoon for an unspecified conduct. The court found mortality pled guilty by City Justice George Hagen and imposed fines totaling $10.30, including $5 and $96.80 in charges, with the remainder as costs.
