Awful Fire at Lafayette Destroys Major Business District
In Friday afternoon winds a fire in Lafayette started behind H J Mollitor's drug store and within an hour wiped out seven buildings, half the business district, with losses estimated from forty to fifty thousand dollars. Goblitsch Brey and Goblitsch Stadick were among the heaviest losers. no lives were reported. The fire faced water shortages and engine failures, with aid from Winthrop saving buildings across the street. Insurance coverage is thought insufficient to cover the damages.
